LBSAA honours Obi, Others at President’s Dinner

Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, was among recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award at the 20th Annual President’s Dinner of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association (LBSAA) held in Lagos last weekend.

At the prestigious event, graced by 1500 guests from all walks of life, Obi joined LAPO Microfinance Managing Director, Godwin Eseiwi Ehigiamuse, to bag an award for people-oriented service delivery, exemplary leadership and high standards.

“I did not hesitate to accept the award because it’s one of those awards that take one by surprise without anybody offering it for consideration,” said an enthused Obi on receiving the award.

While admitting he was proud to be an LBS alumnus, Obi urged other alumni to provide exemplary leadership in their respective organisations and display a spirit of public service in whatever capacity they could.

Guests were entertained with performances by the Ekemini Dance Troupe and highly engaging comic sessions. AMP 22 (Advanced Management Programme) won the LBSAA Best Class Award for the fourth consecutive time; while there was a change of baton between LBSAA Exco. Mr Wole Oshin, MD/CEO, Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc, emerged the new LBSAA president, taking over from Sir Demola Aladekomo of Chams Plc.

Dr Enase Okonedo, dean of LBS, was on hand to personally congratulate alumni who had made the School proud in their respective endeavours.

“Ex-Governor Obi’s award was due to his stellar performance while in office as governor of Anambra,” explained Henry Onukwuba, director, Alumni Relations at LBS.

He reiterated that the Distinguished Alumnus Award – shared by Obi with LAPO Microfinance – was for alumni who had distinguished themselves or their organisations through the provision of excellent service and leadership.

The LBSAA President’s Dinner creates a platform for the exchange of business ideas which help move the nation forward, while highlighting LBS’ leading role in developing business leadership and entrepreneurial skills, as well as job creation in Nigeria.
