LBS to Host Y Combinator

Lagos Business School in partnership with the Nigerian Tech community will be hosting Y Combinator, the most successful startup incubator in the world, on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

The event which is centered on “Building a Startup” will allow experts from the investor, academic and incubator communities share their thoughts on how to go about building a successful startup.

The event will comprise of two panels, The Nigerian Opportunities Panel and The Education Panel. The Nigerian Opportunities Panel will discuss the following: What opportunities are Nigerian entrepreneurs missing? How are Nigerian incubators preparing startups for the global stage?  The Education Panel will focus on: What academic institutions can do to support entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

Speakers expected at the event include: Michael Seibel, CEO of Y Combinator, Younis Qasar, COO of Y Combinator and Shola Akinlade, founder and CEO of PaystackCo. They will be on the lookout for the next big thing to invest in.

Y Combinator works with startups and their ideas. In 2005, Y Combinator created a new model for funding early stage startups. Twice a year they invest a small amount of money ($120k) in a large number of startups. As of 2016, Y Combinator had invested in ~940 companies including Dropbox, Airbnb, Coinbase, Stripe, Reddit, Zenefits, BuildZoom, Instacart, Twitch.tv, Machine Zone, Weebly The combined market capitalization of YC companies was over $65B.
