LBS hosts another successful edition of Young Talents Programme, attracts over 1000 applications

The sixth edition of the annual Young Talents Programme (YTP) held at Lagos Business School with nearly 60 young graduates experiencing life at the School in a two-day immersion session.

Held on August 9 and 10, 2019, the YTP is a platform for engaging with bright and talented university students, opening them up to possibilities in the MBA and PhD programmes and shortlisting a select few for the Management Scholarship Academy, a two-year programme expected to prepare them for doctoral degrees.

The programme kicked off with an introductory session facilitated by LBS Professor of Strategic Management, Chris Ogbechie who acquainted the participants with the School’s missional imperative and the importance of ethics to its teachings. Alumni Relations Director, Henry Andoh advanced the conversation by exposing the participants to the history and inspiration of LBS.

MBA Director, Dr Uchenna Uzo took the participants through an engaging session on branding. The session was characterised by a case discussion that allowed the participants to explore different aspects of the concept of branding. They also discussed case studies written by other members of the LBS faculty including Dr Henrietta Onwuegbuzie.

Participants were later divided into five groups and tasked to propose sustainable and profitable social impact projects to a group of judges including successful entrepreneur and LBS alumnus, Richmond Okafor. Representatives of these groups presented their business plan in meticulous PowerPoint presentations and explanatory videos after which the most impressive group was rewarded.

YTP alumni who are currently on the LBS Management Scholars Academy also shared their experience in a session facilitated by LBS Marketing faculty, Dr Tayo Otubanjo. 2016 YTP fellow, Ifeanyi Nweke who won a fully-funded award for an MSc in International Accounting and Finance at the EDHEC Business School, France also encouraged the participants to take advantage of the immense benefits that the programme offers.

This year’s edition of the YTP attracted over 1000 applications, a significant increase on the 250 applications that were received last year. The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates and a networking cocktail.
