LBS Alumna Joins Board of UN Group

Lagos Business School alumna, Bola Adesola, has been appointed to the board of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) by UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.

Adesola is the only Nigerian and one of two Africans on the board of the UNGC, which is a leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of sustainable corporate policies and practices.

Bola, who participated in LBS’ Chief Executive Programme (CEP 9), worked in corporate legal practice after she graduated from Buckingham University with a degree in Law in 1984. Afterwards, she started her career in banking at Citibank Nigeria in 1990, where she held various managerial positions including Country Treasurer of Citibank Tanzania.

She was the Executive Director of First Bank for five years and Managing Director of Kakawa Discount House from 1999. She is also the first female MD/CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Limited, and a trustee of Nigeria’s Financial Markets Dealers Association.
