Lagos Business School hosts 15th annual MBA Career Fair

It was a convergence of top organisations in Nigeria, current and graduating students, as well as alumni of Lagos Business School MBA programme at the annual Career Fair held on Wednesday, 28 February 2018.

The 15th edition of the career fair was a mutually beneficial platform as MBA students were able to interact with participating organisations for possible internship and employment while the latter spotted high-performing talent.

The event opened with a welcome address by the Director of MBA programme at LBS, Dr Uchenna Uzo who took the opportunity of his speech to announce the School’s latest milestones. He disclosed that about 50 percent of second-year MBA students went on exchange programmes at top business schools across the globe including IESE Business School Barcelona, IÉSEG School of Management, Paris, and IPADE Business School, Mexico.

In her speech, LBS Dean, Dr Enase Okonedo described the Career Fair as an event that is highly anticipated for myriads of reasons, one of which is the opportunity to present MBA students that have been duly prepared to companies. She said, “We spend a lot of time preparing the students, and we emphasize the values that are needed for today’s world. It’s more about the attitudes, the desire to venture, an ethical orientation, all with the right mindset”. She thanked returning companies for their consistency and urged the new ones to maximize their interactions with the students.

The keynote speech was delivered by Partner and Head of Advisory Services, KPMG, Adebisi Lamikanra who is an alumnus with over three decades of consulting experience. Lamikanra took the students through the vital skills needed to excel in today’s workplace while she also harped on the need for the students to possess a global mindset.

The graduating students presented their Internal Reports in groups and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bottling Company, George Polymenakos closed the session with a piece of advice to the students. He opined, “Don’t let the old and obsolete put you down. Our obligation as company leaders is to give you the perfect environment to grow in”.

The students and industry leaders then moved on to engage at the open fair which featured national and international organisations from various sectors including Dow Chemicals, Hubmart, KPMG, Control Risks, Vurin Group, Total, BASF, Diamond Bank, Dalberg, AFEX, Coca-Cola and more.

Some of the MBA alumni members who returned this year as recruiters expressed their delight in participating in the LBS Career Fair again. MBA 10 alumnus, Oyewale Akeredolu, who represented world’s leading chemical company, BASF West Africa said his choice of taking the LBS MBA had placed him ahead of peers who took foreign MBAs as the local content emphasized on at the programme is practical in this region.

The fair closed with further interactions and networking.
