  • How do I apply to the Modular MBA Programme?

  • What is the timeline for applying?

    There are three rounds of application. Each round typically takes about 4 months. View application deadlines

  • What is the application fee?

    The application fee for the Modular MBA is NGN 5,000.

  • What is included in the program fee?

    The fee covers tuition, academic materials used in the classroom, access to the library, and all programmes organized for students within the duration of the program. For full details, see Fees and Living Expenses page

  • What is the duration/How long is the program?

    24 months

  • Do you offer a one-year programme?

    No. LBS does not offer a one year programme

  • Are international students eligible to apply?

    Yes. Domestic and international students alike are welcome to apply.

  • Which standardized tests does the programme accept?

    The programme accepts either the LBS Exam/ GMAT/ GRE/ NMAT as part of the application process. We do not have a preference for either test.

  • How do I know if my application is complete?

    Your status can be checked via the online application system. We will notify you via email if anything is missing from your application. This includes, but may not be limited to, exam scores (GMAT/GRE/NMAT), letters of recommendation, transcripts, and the application fee.

    Should your application be incomplete, then materials will be marked as missing on your checklist. Any applications that are incomplete as of the application deadline will shift to the next round of admission.

  • How do I check the status of my application?

    You can check the status of your application on our online application system. Log in with the same username and password that you used to submit your application.

  • How will my application be evaluated?

    Each application received is reviewed in depth by the Admissions Committee. When selecting students we put an emphasis on intellectual capacity, professionalism, maturity and effective decision-making and problem-solving potential.

  • How do I add new information if I have already submitted my application?

    Once the application has been submitted, the Admissions Committee is unable to accept application updates other than contact updates. If invited to interview, applicants may inform the Committee of updates at that time.

  • What if I am not sure if I want an MBA or PhD?

    Our PhD Programme is research-oriented and primarily intended to prepare graduates for a career in academics, although some go on to work in the business sector. You should consider your career goals and compare programme information carefully.

  • When is the best time in my career to apply?

    There is no one profile or path prior to application that guarantees admission – we value a diverse class and are looking for qualified candidates from many different backgrounds.

  • What is the desired length of work experience?

    Minimum of three years of full-time work experience is required. Time spent during national service is counted as work experience

  • What constitutes work experience?

    Work experience includes opportunities in which students have been able to develop their professional and leadership skills.

  • Is there a list of approved or recommended companies to work for during the required pre-MBA work experience?

    No. You have the flexibility to explore career options in a multitude of industries as long as their positions help develop your professional and leadership skills.

  • Are there specific types of work experience that will make me a more attractive candidate?

    Rather than focus on specific categories of work experiences, applicants should focus on their roles, responsibilities, and what they have learned from the types of work experiences that they have been involved in. The Admissions Committee will look at the nature of the applicant’s work experience when evaluating the applicants’ ability to handle the academic rigor of our MBA programme. When referencing work experience, applicants should highlight skills developed, contributions they have made to organizations, and leadership roles

  • Who should recommendations come from?

    The Admissions Committee suggests that one recommendation should come from a current or recent supervisor, if possible. Recommenders should be individuals who know the candidate well and who can attest to the candidate’s leadership ability.

  • What is the process for recommenders?

    Candidates enter recommenders’ names and email addresses into their online application. Recommenders then receive an email with a link to their recommendation. The recommendations are submitted separately from the candidates’ application and will automatically be included in the application upon submission. Applicants should not wait for recommenders to submit their recommendations before submitting their applications.

  • Is the recommendation deadline the same as the application deadline?

    Applicants should submit their applications as soon as they feel ready. Recommendations are submitted separately by the recommenders. Please bear in mind that it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all recommendations are submitted online by the deadline date for the round in which the applicant is applying.

  • What if I don't want to use my current employer as a reference?

    We understand the concerns about using a current employer as a reference. Clients or other supervisors can be used as references if you are uncomfortable requesting one from your current employer. Your reference should know you and your work well enough to tell us about your abilities and address the areas indicated on the reference form. If you do not use a current employer, you should comment on the reasons for this in the optional essay.

  • What should I do if my recommender doesn't speak English?

    All recommendations must be submitted in English. Your recommender should seek the help of a translator or use translation software. The translation cannot be done by you. If these options are not possible, you will need to select another recommender.

  • When should I expect an invitation for an interview?

    Interview invitations are extended on a rolling basis. The timing of your interview does not imply anything about the status of your application nor does it impact your candidacy. Invitations to interview are a positive indicator no matter when you receive them.

  • How can I best prepare?

    The purpose of the interview is to better understand you as an MBA candidate for our programme. We encourage candidates to relax and be ready to talk about themselves.

  • Who should I contact if I have a question regarding my application status?

    Any questions you have should be submitted to us via our online inquiry form.

  • When and how can I expect to hear back from LBS?

    You will be notified via email within two months after your interview.

  • Will LBS provide feedback for students who have been rejected?

    Due to the large number of applications we receive each year, we cannot accommodate requests for personalized feedback on your application. Also, please understand that the decision of the Admissions Committee is final, and we can advise you on whether or not you should reapply in the future.

  • How long can I defer my acceptance?

    Candidates should submit applications only for the year they plan to enter the MBA programme. Deferrals are granted, after having met the deferral conditions, for a maximum period of four years and are considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • How do I reapply?

    Complete a new application and submit all required materials.

  • How many seats are available on the MBA programme?

    We expect the class size to be in the 50-80 range.

  • If admitted, am I expected to pay an acceptance deposit?

    Yes. Admitted students pay a non-refundable acceptance deposit of about 45% of the year’s tuition fee to hold their place in the class. The required acceptance deposit will be in the offer letter.

  • Will the MBA programme guarantee me a job after graduation?

    No. We only facilitate your job search and ensure you get an offer before or during graduation. You are expected to leverage the career services as a primary resource.

  • What are your requirements for international applicants?

    All international applicants are required to hold a university degree or college equivalent to a four-year Nigerian baccalaureate degree.

  • Can I have the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE waived?

    All international applicants are exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS/PTE requirement

  • Do you offer Scholarships to international students?

    Yes. Scholarships are available for outstanding students with proven financial need upon admission to the MBA programme. You will not need to apply for scholarships until that time. The school also facilitates students loans for students in partnership with some Nigerian banks.

  • When is the latest I can take the GMAT or GRE?

    The GMAT or GRE is required by each round deadline. Unofficial scores are acceptable at the time of application, but every applicant must request to have their official score submitted to LBS.

  • What is the latest date test scores will be accepted?

    View test scores submission deadlines.

    When submitting your application, you may report the unofficial GMAT or GRE score given on the day of the test, or your official score if you have received it. These are the only scores that the Admissions Committee acknowledges. Your official score report may arrive from Pearson (for the GMAT) or ETS (for the GRE) after the deadline dates, and this score will be used for verification purposes. GMAT and GRE scores are valid for five years

    Please note that the LBS code for the GMAT is 8NM– K2 – 36.. However, you will NOT need to have the testing services resend your official scores to us if the ones we have are still valid.

  • Is there a minimum GMAT or GRE score required to apply?

    No. We accept applicants with a wide range of test scores. If your score is lower than you were hoping, taking the test again can be a way to strengthen your application. We recommend preparing for the GMAT/GRE well before the test date so that you are not struggling to take the test, write your MBA application, and manage your day-to-day life all at once.

  • What is the range of GMAT scores for accepted students?

    The Admissions Committee hopes that all applicants will recognize the following: the full range of GMAT scores is very broad, that there is no “minimum” score requirement, and that the GMAT is just one piece of data among the many used to evaluate an application.

  • Can I list only my best GMAT or GRE score?

    Yes. We consider only the score from a single test sitting that you present in your application.

  • Do I need to complete the AWA section of the GMAT or GRE?

    Yes. You do not need to have the results of the AWA section of the GMAT or GRE in order to submit your application; however, we do require you to complete this portion of the exam and we will require an AWA score for anyone applying to the programme.

  • Do I need to complete the Integrated Reasoning Component of the GMAT?

    Yes. Anyone who takes the GMAT on or after June 5, 2012 will be required to take the Integrated Reasoning portion of the GMAT exam

  • How will I know when you receive my official GMAT or GRE scores?

    You can check the status in the online application system. However, it may take a significant amount time for your application to be updated with the verified scores. If we are missing your scores prior to admission, the admissions office team will contact you directly.

  • Do you accept advanced/professional degrees, and/or extensive work experience as a substitution for the GMAT?

    No. The GMAT or GRE is required of all applicants. We are unable to waive or accept substitutions for this requirement under any circumstance.

  • How can I submit my transcript?

    Transcripts must be sent to the admission office from your undergraduate school. Download transcript form, complete it and send to your school. You may upload an “unofficial” or student copy of your transcript; however, we will expect an official copy from your school for verification purposes should you be admitted to LBS.

  • Is there a minimum GPA requirement to apply?

    No. There are many other equally important components of the application. GPA is just one factor the Admissions Committee uses to evaluate a candidate.

  • What is the average GPA of accepted students?

    Because we recognize that different schools use various grading criteria, it is difficult to determine an average GPA for the class. GPA is only one of many factors that the Admissions Committee uses in evaluating an applicant.

  • I was invited to interview. Can I bring my official transcripts to the interview?

    No. We require official transcripts only upon admission.

  • What is an unofficial transcript?

    Any transcript that is not in an official, sealed envelope from your registrar is unofficial. Additionally, any transcript that is scanned, copied, faxed, emailed, or sent directly from the applicant is considered unofficial.

  • My university is outside of Nigeria and uses a different grading scale. What should I do?

    Our admissions committee will review your grades within the context that they were awarded. We are familiar with different grading systems around the world. Please do not attempt to convert your grades to the GPA system. We will accept your transcripts in the format that your university issues them. You can send your transcripts, as they are, via scanned .jpg or .pdf version. If these are not in English, please be sure that you provide an English translation.

  • My school issues official transcripts in English. Will you accept these, or do I need to submit these in their original language as well?

    We will accept official transcripts in English.

  • If my transcripts are all in English and reflect the degree was awarded, do I still have to submit a degree certificate?

    We require degree certificates from all universities attended outside Nigeria.

  • What is the estimated cost for one year at LBS?

  • What are some options for financing my MBA education?

    LBS is committed to making the MBA Programme accessible to students with a demonstrated financial need. There are a number of scholarship places available for both domestic and international students with proven financial need and you can only apply after you have been offered a place on the programme. Students are encouraged to draw on personal resources wherever possible.

  • Case Method: What makes the case method successful?

    The case method enable students apply the concepts and skills that the course is designed to teach, and integrate knowledge from other courses and even life experiences. Through the demanding, engaging, and proactive learning environment, it develops the knowledge, skills, and confidence to face the variety of difficult decisions that students will undoubtedly face throughout their careers.   • How is the curriculum structured?

    To successfully complete the MBA programme, 15 months of in-class study, 3 months of corporate paid internship and at least 72 credit hours of course work are required. Students spend their first two semesters completing the core courses with work groups to which they are assigned. This work groups enable them see problems and solutions from different perspectives, as the different educational and work experiences of fellow students create a rich diversity. During the last two semesters, students can choose to participate in student exchange programmes with our partner schools abroad or offer electives locally.

  • International Students Exchange Programme: Is it possible to cross register with other universities?

  • Programme Offerings: Does LBS offer a part-time or executive MBA programme?

    Yes. LBS offer two part-time MBA programme, Executive MBA and Modular Executive MBA.

  • What are the extracurricular activities available?

    There are a number of student-led activities that offers over 21 leadership positions through which students can serve as liaisons between the MBA student body and the local and international community. There are also social activities all year round that students have access to

  • Are there accommodation on campus?

    No. LBS have no accommodation on campus. There are accommodations near school. Students should contact admission office for assistance.

  • What are my transportation options?

    The LBS campus is accessible via either car or public transportation. It is not necessary to own a car while living in the Ajah/Sangotedo area because of the convenient taxi and bus systems.

  • How can I sign up for a campus tour?

    There is no need to sign up for a campus tour. You can contact the admissions office to schedule a tour. However, we understand that advance scheduling is not always possible, so we welcome walk-in visitors.

  • How can I sign up for a classroom visit and is there a limit to how many I can attend?

    To schedule a class visit please contact the admissions office at least one to two weeks prior to your expected arrival date. To attend, be sure to bring your class visit e-mail confirmation. Due to the high volume of class visit requests, you may only schedule one class visit.

  • What is the difference between an MBA Fair and an Information Session?

    The LBS MBA Fair is an on-campus programmme designed to help prospective students learn more about the LBS culture and community. The fair takes place over about half a day and offers the opportunity to attend an information session, tour LBS, sit in a live class, and have lunch with students.     Information sessions are available all year round for you to attend. These Sessions are designed to provide detailed overview of the MBA programme like interesting case discussion, detailed overview of the MBA programme, MBA Alumni interaction, networking and light lunch. Register here

  • What events are held for accepted students?

    The brush up week is a one week programme designed by the school to enable quick adjustments to the school system and learning methods without any grading.

  • As a student, will I have the opportunity to network with alumni through organized events?

    Absolutely. LBS has many networking events available to its students. For example, many student clubs organize conferences, visits and speaker events within and outside the campus, giving students unparalleled opportunities to network and learn about internship and job possibilities. Also, students have the opportunity to network with the more than 6,000 LBS alumni who have made themselves available to current students to help them explore career opportunities.
