Dr Okey Nwuke is a leading figure in corporate governance and institutional sustainability, recognised for shaping resilient organisations and strengthening the continuity of family-owned enterprises across generations. Driven by a commitment to improving the survival of family enterprises, Dr Nwuke earned a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Leadership, focusing on the complexities of leadership transition. He applies this insight as a faculty member and Director of the Family Business Initiative at Lagos Business School (LBS), where he develops programmes that equip family business leaders with the systems required for professional governance, clear succession pathways, and stewardship-driven leadership. Drawing on his research and decades of leadership experience, he challenges Africa’s founder-centric business models and advocates for institutional structures, leadership pipelines, and organisational cultures that preserve value across generations.
With more than two decades in top-tier commercial banking and extensive boardroom experience, Dr Nwuke brings recognised depth in corporate governance, board leadership, risk and capital strategy, enterprise sustainability, and family business continuity. As Executive Director of Access Bank Plc’s Corporate & Investment Banking Division (2004–2013), he led major financial structuring and strategic growth initiatives, grounding his governance expertise in real-world execution and institutional strengthening.
Dr Nwuke serves on several boards, including Access Bank Plc, where he chairs the Board Technical Committee on Retail Expansion and is Vice Chair of the Board Credit Committee. He also advises three subsidiaries of the Coscharis Group on governance and institutionalisation. In addition, he is Chairman of ActivEdge Technologies Ltd, Chairman of the Shareholders’ Audit Committee at NASCON Plc, Chairman of the Audit Committee at Access Pensions Ltd, and a Board Member of First World Communities Ltd. In 2026, he was appointed to the LBS Management Board, further deepening his role in shaping institutional leadership and governance. His broad portfolio underscores his versatility and credibility in governance, risk oversight, and long-term organisational strategy.
At LBS, Dr Nwuke shapes leaders who build organisations capable of surviving generational transitions. His programmes strengthen governance, support succession planning, and cultivate leadership grounded in stewardship and accountability. His teaching blends academic rigour with practical insight into family business dynamics.
His influence spans banking, technology, manufacturing, real estate, pensions, and mobility. Through his board and advisory work, he contributes to institutionalising governance frameworks, reinforcing audit and risk oversight, guiding founder-led organisations toward professional governance, and developing leadership continuity systems. His work has supported hundreds of African family businesses in confronting succession challenges, reducing founder dependence, and improving long-term survival rates.
Guided by a mission to strengthen Africa’s institutions, particularly family enterprises that anchor the continent’s economies, Dr Nwuke is committed to responsible leadership, ethical governance, and building organisations that thrive through uncertainty and transition. He holds a DBA in Leadership from Walden University, an MBA (Distinction) in International Banking & Finance from Birmingham Business School, and a B.Sc. in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His executive education includes programmes at Harvard Business School (AMP), Wharton, Stanford GSB, INSEAD, IMD, and IESE/LBS.
Dr Nwuke is a Fellow of ICAN, FCIT, and BRIPAN; an Honorary Member of CIBN; and a member of the Institute of Directors (UK & Nigeria) and the Society for Corporate Governance.
