We are pleased to announce the launch of a compelling new case study from the Lagos Business School (LBS) Management Hub.
Launched on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the case is titled “Navigating Disruption & Forging Resilience.” It was co-authored by Professor Louis Nzegwu, Segun Jones and Grace Oyetola.
This study provides an in-depth examination of the remarkable recovery of SIMS Nigeria Limited, a leading distributor of electronics and home appliances. The case details how the company responded after a devastating inferno destroyed its warehouses and goods worth billions of naira.
Core Principles in Practice
The SIMS story is a powerful illustration of strategic resilience and business continuity in the face of extreme adversity. It goes beyond the crisis to examine how, through visionary leadership, operational agility, and a commitment to innovation, the company managed to transform a major setback into a platform for renewed growth and profitability.
These real-world examples of risk management and adaptive strategy are central to the LBS teaching philosophy.
Increased Relevance and Impact for Students
The development of this case study reinforces LBS’s commitment to thought leadership in management education. By bridging academic theory with practical, real-world experience, we spotlight African enterprises that demonstrate exceptional grit and ingenuity.
Crucially, cases derived from the local business environment, like that of SIMS Nigeria Limited, offer significantly increased relevance and benefit to our students:
- Applicability: These cases feature challenges and opportunities our students are most likely to encounter in their careers, involving factors unique to the African and Nigerian operating environment, such as currency fluctuations, specific regulatory frameworks, and infrastructural limitations. Learning from these local complexities ensures that the lessons are directly applicable the moment they step into a leadership role.
- Deepened Understanding: They provide an authentic, first-hand view of how strategies are executed in the local context, allowing students to better connect with and analyse the decisions made by the featured leaders.
By focusing on home-grown success stories, LBS empowers current and future leaders with valuable insights drawn from Nigerian resilience, reinvention, and impact, directly supporting the School’s mission to produce responsible leaders capable of transforming organisations and societies within our unique context.
