INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
Lagos Business School (LBS) is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented, and highly organised Instructional Designer to join the Learning Innovation Department. This role plays a critical part in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across all delivery modalities – face-to-face, blended, and online – at the business school. The position supports faculty in the design and development of courses and instructional materials that reflect best practices in pedagogy, andragogy, learning science, and educational technology.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related discipline. A master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Cognate experience of 3-4 years in instructional design fundamentals is required. Expertise in Moodle, Google Drive (including Google Docs and Sheets), Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint are essential. Expertise with graphic design principles is preferred. Familiarity with ID models is also preferred.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with staff and multi-disciplinary teams. Expertise and competencies in instructional design, the practice of educational development, and adult learning theory are required. Knowledge of best practices in instructional technologies, online, blended, and face-to-face pedagogy is essential. Skill in designing and delivering training programs that focus on instructional technology and practices used in the improvement of instructional effectiveness is required. A demonstrable knowledge of web design principles and experience creating web pages is preferred. Experience in learning management systems is also required.

DUTIES:

The Instructional Designer will play a critical role in enhancing teaching and learning quality at Lagos Business School. The Instructional Designer will work collaboratively with faculty and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure that course design is engaging, inclusive, academically rigorous, and aligned with the school’s strategic learning goals as well as industry needs. This includes the application of adult learning theories, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and instructional design frameworks to improve learner outcomes and experiences. Essential duties and responsibilities include:

Course Design & Development: Collaborating with faculty and SMEs in designing, developing, and revising courses across multiple modalities (online, blended, face-to-face). This involves applying backwards design principles to align learning outcomes, instructional strategies, and assessment methods.

Instructional Technology Integration: Supporting the integration of appropriate instructional technologies and tools to enhance learning experiences and outcomes. This includes providing expertise on the effective use of Learning Management Systems (LMS), multimedia tools, and other educational technologies.

Faculty Development & Support: Providing ongoing consultation, training, and support to faculty on instructional design best practices, effective use of technology in teaching, and strategies for engaging learners.

Quality Assurance & Evaluation: Ensuring that instructional materials and courses meet established quality standards and accessibility guidelines. This involves participating in the evaluation of learning effectiveness and making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.

Research & Innovation: Staying current with emerging trends and research in instructional design, learning science, and educational technology to recommend innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Project Management: Managing instructional design projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project scope and quality standards.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the Learning Innovation Department’s strategic initiatives and work closely with faculty and program managers to ensure seamless delivery of services.

Short-listed candidates will be invited to prepare and present their vision along with a five-year strategy for the School in line with the above duties, at a seminar attended by members of the University.
