Purpose of Position: Providing comprehensive research support to faculty, including literature reviews, experimental design, and data management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/KEY JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collaborate proactively with the supervising faculty through scheduled consultations to align research goals, assignments, and progress updates.
- Conduct in-depth literature reviews to extract, synthesise, and critique key arguments and emerging trends within relevant fields.
- Contribute to the development of scholarly publications by drafting high-quality sections and supporting materials.
- Develop well-structured articles, briefs, and reports that inform and enhance academic outputs.
- Support the end-to-end publication process, including rigorous editing, accurate referencing, and professional formatting of manuscripts and case studies.
- Identify and gather relevant secondary data and execute fieldwork, including surveys and interviews, to enrich research insights.
- Analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to generate meaningful conclusions for publication and decision-making.
- Conduct exploratory studies and fact-finding assignments to validate concepts and provide foundational support for broader research projects.
- Ensure the supervising faculty’s academic profiles (e.g., Google Scholar, LBS website) are current and reflective of recent contributions.
- Take ownership of additional academic tasks that directly contribute to the quality and impact of research outputs.
- Execute any other responsibilities delegated by the faculty or line manager to support research excellence and institutional goals.
- Support the faculty in recording class attendance during sessions.
- Provide assistance in the preparation of course outlines and teaching materials.
- Carry out other instructional duties as assigned by the faculty.
- Maintain and update the faculty calendar, reflecting all teaching sessions and academic commitments.
- Collaborate with programme managers to schedule faculty sessions and prevent scheduling conflicts.
- Coordinate with seminar organisers to arrange sessions involving the faculty.
- Provide the faculty with advance notice of daily assignments and engagements.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- The quantity of publications produced in collaboration with the supervising faculty.
- Timely and efficient execution of assigned responsibilities.
- The quality of feedback received from the faculty or line manager.
- Consistent class attendance and effective coordination and documentation of student participation.
- Faculty evaluation of performance in assigned teaching-related duties.
- Effective resolution of scheduling conflicts involving the faculty.
- Preparation and communication of the faculty’s annual, monthly, and daily assignments in advance.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED. The following competencies are required for the role:
- Strong quantitative analysis skills
- Proficient in computer applications and digital tools
- Excellent time management abilities
- Effective planning and organisational capabilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Adaptability and ability to perform well under pressure
- Proficiency in Excel, SPSS, and related software
- Accurate transcription skills
- Skilled in conducting online research
- Familiarity with proofreading and referencing techniques
- Experience in fieldwork implementation
- Understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
- Competence in scheduling and managing calendar events
QUALIFICATIONS
A strong first degree in a Social Science or Science discipline is required.
A Master’s or Research-based degree will be an added advantage.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Any relevant professional body.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in data collation/analysis in a medium or large-scale organisation or research institution.
