At Lagos Business School, the commitment to developing people extends beyond the programmes delivered in its classrooms. Rooted in a Christian conception of the human person, the School seeks to cultivate an environment in which individuals are respected, supported, and encouraged to realise their full potential.

This commitment comes alive in many ways, often through opportunities to learn, pathways for development, and a community that recognises potential and nurtures it. It was this spirit that inspired Echoes of Impact, an employee experience-sharing initiative that highlights the personal and professional journeys of individuals whose experiences at Lagos Business School have shaped who they are and who they continue to become.

The latest edition featured three colleagues whose stories reflect different paths, but a common theme: growth flourishes where opportunity, encouragement, and personal determination meet.

Pursuing Possibility

For Joshua Mbak, growth has been marked by a willingness to embrace new opportunities and a determination to pursue his aspirations.

Joshua joined Lagos Business School as a facility attendant, bringing with him a strong interest in communications and a desire to continue learning. Over the years, he took on new responsibilities across different functions, steadily building experience and developing his skills.

Along the way, he found colleagues and mentors who encouraged him to invest in his personal and professional development. Their support strengthened his resolve to pursue higher education while continuing to grow in his career. Today, Joshua serves as Communications Officer on the Alumni Relations team and is completing a master’s degree in communication.

Reflecting on his journey, he credits the culture of encouragement and the sense of community he experienced at LBS with helping him stay focused on his goals and continue expanding what he believed was possible for himself.

Opportunity in Unexpected Places

For Esther Adegoroye, the path to Lagos Business School began with an unexpected change of plans.

After completing the NYSC Orientation Camp, she anticipated beginning her service year elsewhere. When that opportunity did not materialise, she joined LBS as a Corps member in the Custom Executive Education team in November 2021.

What began as an unforeseen detour soon became a defining chapter in her professional journey. During her service year, Esther supported programme management activities and took on a variety of responsibilities that allowed her to develop new skills and gain valuable experience.

At the end of her service year, she was retained as a Learning and Customer Experience Coordinator. As her responsibilities expanded and her expertise grew, she advanced to the role of Associate Manager, Learning and Customer Experience in July 2024.

For Esther, the experience underscored the importance of remaining open to possibilities, even when they arrive in unexpected forms.

“What felt like a disappointment at the time became an opportunity for growth,” she shared. “My experience has taught me that opportunities often come when we least expect them. Stay open to learning, remain dependable, and give your best in everything you do. You never know where it might lead.”

A Decade of Becoming

For Emmanuel Etti, the past ten years have been a story of continuous learning, growth, and self-discovery.

Since joining LBS a decade ago, Emmanuel has served in a variety of roles, each providing new lessons, responsibilities, and opportunities to develop professionally. Alongside his work, he pursued further education and obtained professional certifications, continuously investing in his own development.

Looking back, he describes LBS as more than a workplace. It has been a learning environment that challenged him to grow, adapt, and embrace new possibilities throughout different stages of his career.

The experiences and lessons accumulated over the years inspired him to write A Common Man in an Uncommon Environment: Navigating Uncertainty. A Decade of Becoming, a book that reflects on the challenges, opportunities, and defining moments that have shaped his journey.

One idea sits at the heart of his story: growth is an ongoing process.

“Ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they remain humble, keep learning, and refuse to stop becoming,” he said.

 Living the LBS Mission

Though their experiences differ, Joshua, Esther, and Emmanuel each spoke of a common thread: the value of being part of a community that encourages growth, recognises potential, and creates opportunities for development.

Their stories serve as a reminder that the impact of an institution is not measured solely by the knowledge it creates or the programmes it delivers, but also by the people whose lives are enriched through the opportunities they encounter along the way.

As Echoes of Impact continues to provide a platform for members of the LBS community to share their experiences, it reinforces a principle at the heart of the school’s mission: people flourish when they are given the opportunity to learn, contribute, and continue becoming.
