Why LBS?: In Conversation with EMBA 24 Candidates

In July 2018, Lagos Business School (LBS) was listed among the top 50 global business schools by The Economist magazine’s Executive MBA ranking. LBS was not just the only business school in Africa to feature on the prestigious list, it was also ranked third position in the world for percentage increase in its EMBA students’ salaries upon graduation.

Following from this global recognition, LBS welcomed 76 candidates on its EMBA programme in January 2019. A vibrant group of managers from finance, oil and gas, Real Estate, and e-Commerce industries, the EMBA 24 participants approached their first day in class with an unparalleled willingness to learn and an enthusiasm to be inducted into the LBS community.

In this interview, four of the participants disclose why they chose LBS:

Tope Jegede, Management Consultant and Entrepreneur

I chose Lagos Business School because of its track record in management education and the testimonials I have received from friends and colleagues across industries. Coming here is a game changer for me as I know that they are number 1 in Africa and among the top 50 in the world. Sometime in June 2018, I met with His Excellency, the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo who advised me about making game changing decisions in my career and mentioned LBS and Harvard. I chose LBS because it is right here in Nigeria and provides an opportunity for me to invest in my country. I look forward to a game changing network, impartation and an exchange of knowledge that will move my career to the next level.

Ijeoma Adinu, Senior Manager, Sterling Bank

I first had the LBS experience while I was here for the Senior Management Programme (SMP) years ago and it was definitely enriching. I had shelfed the MBA for a long time but I recently realised it is the key to unlocking the skills I would require to move to the next level in my career so I decided this is the right time to embark on the journey. I want updated knowledge about business, people management, leadership, entrepreneurship and resource management. I have been out of the classroom for a while and I need to be refreshed.

Dave Omoregie, VP Online, Konga

I chose LBS to gain quality knowledge and networking to impact my business. I do not just want a degree, I want knowledge. Most of the schools we have around provide only paper qualification but with LBS, I can present my certificate anywhere on the globe and be assured it will be acknowledged and valued.

Olumuyiwa Olusanya, COO Health Partners HMO

I chose LBS based on the results of my research that proves it is the best business school in Nigeria and West Africa. I came for the quality of the teaching faculty and track record acquired over the years. I expect to gain high quality business knowledge to turn around my business and the society. The diversity in class shows that the selection process was well thought through and the quality of learning from my day 1 experience is world class.
