Lagos Business School Commences the LBS Abuja Breakfast Club

Lagos Business School (LBS) hosted its periodic Breakfast Club meeting in Abuja for the first time on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

The LBS Breakfast Club is a platform that allows business leaders, c-suite executives, diplomats and government officials to receive high quality monthly economic analysis and information on the opportunities and challenges in specific sectors of the economy.

This maiden Abuja Breakfast Club meeting hosted the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and other members of the Abuja business, government and diplomatic communities. As guest speaker at the session, Professor Osinbajo shared insights on the plans of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for its second term in office. Titled ‘Next Level: Directions for the Economy and Development, the Vice President provided detailed information on plans on Security, Education, Health, Agriculture and Energy sectors.

Following the format of the LBS Breakfast Club meetings in Lagos, the Abuja meeting commenced with a diagnostic review of the fault lines and opportunities in the economy and critical public policy and developmental imperatives in the near and long term by LBS Faculty and foremost economist, Dr Doyin Salami. This was followed by the guest speaker’s presentation and then a question and answer session, interactions and engagements by other member and guests.

According to Lagos Business School Dean, Professor Enase Okonedo, the LBS Abuja Breakfast club was birthed to create an avenue for closer interactions between the private and public sector policy makers and foster discussions. “We are hopeful that the discussion at these quarterly meetings will influence policies on issues affecting the business community, the economy, and ultimately the larger Nigerian populace.”

This maiden edition of the LBS Abuja Breakfast Club meeting had in attendance the NNPC Group Managing Director, Mr Maikanti Baru; the IMF Mission Chief for Nigeria, Mr Amine Mati; the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman, Professor James Momoh; the British Deputy High Commissioner, Ms Laure Beaufils; the Nigerian Budget Office Director General, Mr Ben Akabueze; the CBN Deputy Governor, Operations, Mr Folashodun Shonubi among other guests from the diplomatic community, public and private sectors.

The LBS Breakfast Club meetings hosted by Professor of legal, social and political environment of business, Prof Olawale Ajai has been held monthly in Lagos for 15 years with significant value to business leaders. The Abuja leg of the Breakfast club meeting will be held quarterly with its next edition scheduled for September 2019.
