Lagos Business School celebrates its newest professor, Akintola Owolabi

Staff and management of Lagos Business School (LBS) are in high spirits as Accounting faculty, Akintola Owolabi was appointed Professor of Cost and Management Accounting on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

The appointment was announced by the Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) Governing Council following a recommendation by the Appointments and Promotions Committee of the University.

Prof Owolabi joined LBS in 2003 and has since then, taught Corporate Financial Accounting, Tax Planning and Management, Cost and Management Accounting as well as Business Statistics to numerous MBA Classes and executives. In addition to being the Director of PhD programmes at LBS, Prof Owolabi mentors and supervises several masters’ degree and doctoral candidates.

Fondly referred to as ‘Baba’ by colleagues and students, Prof Owolabi’s achievement has been celebrated across the School with many describing it as “well deserved”. Responding to the honour, Prof Owolabi wrote, “It is with a deep sense of humility and sobriety that I express my profound gratitude for celebrating with me my elevation to the rank of a professor. I greatly benefited from God’s grace enabled by the PAU platform in general and LBS in particular.” “Please remember me in your prayer to continue to imbibe a key message our Professor Emeritus, Albert Alos, the first Vice-Chancellor of PAU gave our community when in 2004, PAU was voted the 2nd best University in Nigeria.  Alos (2004), “notwithstanding this achievement, we must continue to be humble in the provision of our service to our clients (both external and internal, emphasis mine)”, he added.

Professor Owolabi has over three decades of industry, consulting, research and academic experience and has published widely in international and professional journals and presented papers in conferences across the world.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI), Professor Owolabi is the seventh faculty member to achieve a professorship status at LBS.

 

Prof Owolabi’s achievement has been celebrated across the School with many describing it as “well deserved”.
