Lagos Business School (LBS) has become the first institution in West Africa to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). With effect from December 1, 2016, LBS joins the league of less than 5% of business schools globally, to be accredited by this body.
This was announced at a press conference, today, at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island which had in attendance, members of the LBS management board, Dr Yinka David-West, Dr Chris Ogbechie, Mr Charles Ivenso; a member of Pan-Atlantic Governing Council, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN and Mr Peter Bankole, Director, Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) and Mrs Clare Omatseye, Vice-President, LBS Alumni association.
Addressing members of the press, Dr David-West emphasised some of the benefits of the accreditation to the School. “The AACSB accreditation enhances the quality of LBS as an institution, providing two-way mobility for our faculty and students. We envisage that LBS will be able to attract more international faculty and also send out faculty to other qualified institutions. Likewise, LBS degrees would be accepted by international organisations that know about the AACSB accreditation’.
In his own remarks, Dr Ogbechie said, “The rigorous accreditation process of AACSB International and the School’s ability to scale all the hurdles by sheer determination and strong leadership, have more than ever confirmed LBS as one of the most distinguished business schools in Africa. Faculty and staff of accredited schools are assured of the school’s visibility and increased capacity to attract top quality students for their programmes. Alumni of accredited schools can be proud of their alma mater’s global visibility and recognition – a validation of the quality of their certificates. LBS has earned this global accreditation mainly because of its commitment to the core values of professionalism and ethics and in passionately pursuing its objectives of providing high potential professionals with a general management education which stresses professional ethics and service to the community through the practice of management.”
Mrs Omatseye, while congratulating LBS on this landmark achievement, stated that although she graduated 17 years ago, the standard at LBS never dropped and that this accreditation is an impetus to work even harder.
AACSB is the leading global accreditation body for business schools offering undergraduate, masters and doctorate degrees in business and accounting. Founded in 1916, AACSB has its headquarters at Tampa, Florida, United States of America; it is the largest business education network, linking students, academia and businesses to advance the cause of business education around the world.
By the feat of AACSB Accreditation, Lagos Business School has once more distinguished itself as a management education provider of high repute in Africa. Only four other schools in the entire continent have this accreditation; three in South Africa and one in Egypt.
