ISC 2018, Why Businesses and the SDGs?

New Pathways to Inclusive Growth

This year, the conference will focus on the theme ‘Business and the Sustainable Development Goals: New Pathways to Inclusive Growth’. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) present a unique opportunity for businesses to create unprecedented socio-economic impact in the society, as well as, deliver value and profit to their stakeholders and shareholders.

This applies especially to Africa and Nigeria because the potential for inclusive, green and sustainable growth and development remains largely untapped. The prevailing short-term mindset of business leaders prevents them from adopting a long-term sustainable approach combining considerations of profit, people and planet.

Our objective is for participating business leaders to reappraise the SDGs in line with their own key performance indicators (KPIs); then measure the impact of their business, policies, and practices, and align their sustainability strategies with international, yet locally relevant, priorities.
