History
Established in 1992, the Lagos Business School (LBS) was initiated by the Educational
Co-operation Society (ECS), a not-for-profit and non-governmental
organization registered in Nigeria in 1973. As the School
developed into a sizeable organization, the Educational Co-operation
Society transferred this project to the African Development
Foundation, ADF, a not-for-profit Trust registered in Nigeria
in 1994.
In January 2002 the Federal Government of Nigeria approved
the application of LBS to be raised to the status of a private
university and in February 2002 it granted the license to
Pan-African University to operate as a private university.
From that day, the Lagos Business School became the first
school of Pan-African University.
With this development, in addition to the various programmes
of executive education the school has been offering in the
past twelve years, LBS is now able to run degree programmes
in Business Administration. Accordingly, LBS started its Part-time
(Executive) MBA in 2002, the Full-time MBA in June 2003 and a Doctorate Degree programme in Management in October 2006.

Foundational and Motivating Force
Lagos Business School and Pan-African University were set
up under the inspiration of the teachings of Saint Josemaría
Escrivá, founder of the Catholic institution, Opus
Dei. The Prelature of Opus Dei encourages Christians of all
social classes to live consistently with their faith, in the
middle of the ordinary circumstances of their lives, especially
through the sanctification of their professional work and
family life. It encourages them also to play an active role
in the just and efficient ordering of their societies.
Responsibility for the functioning and government of PAU and
LBS rests with the university's governing board and the school's
management team, not with the Opus Dei Prelature. The latter
takes responsibility for guaranteeing that all teaching, publishing
and research activities in the university are based on the
Christian vision of man, society and economic activity.
Like similar ventures, PAU fully respects the freedom of individual
consciences and is open to people of all creeds, races, and
social conditions. responsibility for guaranteeing that this
vision actually underlies all teaching, publishing and research
activities of the School.
