This is the act of satisfying business requirements from markets through the proactive and structured analyses of supply markets and the selection of capable suppliers/contractors to meet the agreed business needs.
Typically, many business organisations in Nigeria have always encouraged “reactive procurement management†which largely deploys approach to the detriment of corporate governance and profitability. Furthermore, the consequences of poor procurement management which physically manifests quite often in extensive delays, high costs, abandoned and delayed projects, abound in our economy.
The impact of strategic procurement/contract management can no longer be ignored given that total contract expenditures are now in excess of 50 percent of corporate revenue in almost every sector of the economy, and thus offers huge potentials for savings.
