Corporate Security

Theme: Securing Company Operations, Assets & Personnel in a Volatile Environment

Overview
In the past several years, the security context in which businesses function in Nigeria has changed dramatically for the worse.  As pervasive as violent crimes and general insecurity have been in the last several decades, the situation in the country today is clearly different.  In clear terms, this new environment portends a direct and continuing threat to business continuity across the spectrum of economic sectors and operations.  These threats manifest in various forms such as:

  • Hostage taking
  • Kidnapping for ransom
  • Bombings and timed explosives
  • Premeditated attacks on business infrastructures
  • Intimidation of  business organisations
  • Cyber-crime

In consequence, business organisations in the country are being forced to adopt various measures aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of operating in an increasingly volatile environment.  Even Information Technology (IT) has thrown up its own complications and challenges by providing a ready platform for a burgeoning class of confidence tricksters armed with as little as the computer and internet access.  Apart from the increasing incident of cyber-crime, militants in the Niger Delta and their copycats across the country have latched on to the Internet and mobile telecommunications infrastructure to prosecute their ‘war’.  The result is a Nigerian corporate environment that is in a heightened state of uncertainty and flux.

The learning organisation must develop contingencies and adjunct competencies to mitigate these threats to personnel and operations.  Those executives and officers who have the unenviable responsibility for ensuring the integrity of company operations as a going concern and the safety of corporate personnel and assets are severely challenged to stay one step ahead of their game in this volatile environment.  Their function as the critical gate-keepers for their companies put them at the cross-hairs of these threats when they manifest in reality.

They must therefore be at the forefront of the requisite learning process with the goal being that of prevention of security threats and mitigation of their effects when they do manifest.  Of primary importance here is the need to understand the concepts and the latest developments that underscore current global best-practice principles in corporate security.

This seminar is offered in conjunction with Executive Protection & Logistics Limited, to provide a platform for such a learning experience.
