MBA Career Office holds Oceanic Bank Day

“We want the brightest and the most entrepreneurial, that is why we have come to LBS” Dr. Mrs. Cecilia Ibru said, speaking to MBA students at the School’s Lekki Campus on Friday 9th May. The MD/CEO of Oceanic Bank congratulated LBS on achieving world-class standards, and said she looked forward to one of the MBA students leading the Bank some day.

She spoke at a forum tagged ‘Oceanic Bank day’ organised by the MBA Career Office to increase awareness and raise interest in the banking career for MBA students. In her presentation, she shared the Bank’s vision of becoming one of the top 3 banks within Africa in 2010, offering best-in-class service and efficiency.  And said “to achieve these goals one of the things we plan to do is to upgrade systems, processes and staff competency.”  She told the MBA students that the Bank would deploy graduates they hire to work in investment banking and financial control, where they would do analysis and come up with superior propositions.

Dr. Mrs. Ibru was impressed with the number of engineers on the MBA programme, saying that there was a need for more engineers to combine their technical backgrounds with business education to restore Nigeria’s industrial base.  She urged the students to take their education seriously, as they were to be the agents of change in the nation.

The presentation was followed by a cocktail party with the students and Dean of LBS Prof. Juan Elegido. It was attended by Mrs. Ibru, and her guest Mr. Dave Robinson Regional Director (Middle East) for Hill & Knowlton, who was visiting Nigeria for the first time.  Also present were Mr. Charles Mekwunye, Executive Director Oceanic Bank; Mr. Victor Banjo, Group Head of Human Resources; Mr. Tony Chiejina, Head Corporate Affairs; and other executives and staff of the Bank.

Mrs. Ibru is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School in the CEP-7 class, a programme for Chief Executive Officers.  She has won several awards including African Banker of the year 2007 (African Banker).
