Overview

The AMP is for Executive Directors and members of the Executive Management Team of large organisations. Participants in the AMP typically are in positions in which it no longer suffices to be highly performing specialists; they now have to lake responsibility to integrate the work of their departments with that of other departments. They are in positions that require them to take a holistic and integrated view of things in order to make good and informed decisions.

The AMP curriculum is built on over 130 international and local real life cases. The case study method is a major learning tool used in the programme. Cases are not a substitute for real life experience, but lead to a learning process similar to well-analysed experience. The use of role-play and simulation games are used to help the participants revolutionise their thinking and position them strategically to make vital decisions that will enhance the growth of their organisations.

At LBS, participants will learn from our expert faculty, but they are also encouraged to network and will gain valuable experience by working on the challenges they face with their peers. This enriches and greatly enhances learning and team spirit.

The programme is fine blend of executives from various sectors of industry and aims at producing dynamic and innovative leaders in this era of intense competition, globalization and corporate renewal. At the end of the programme, participants will be more insightful on how to tackle the challenges they constantly face within a more strategic and integrated way.

The AMP which has been run several times is constantly refined to incorporate new knowledge and meet new challenges without losing sight of the theme... Integration.

The programme is run once a year on part-time format from February to July and is non-residential.

Negotiation
Negotiation is both an art and a science. Through case studies and role plays, participants will be actively engaged in negotiation exercises in a business context.

Business Process Re-Engineering
Is BPR really necessary or is the fancy footwork of TQM enough? Several companies and consulting outfits have been promising radical transformation and changes through BPR but the results are not mush to justify the cost and time spent on the exercise. Is effective BPR realisable in developing countries where the rules of competition are still not quite up to date? How much can you leap in front of your competition, contain cost and still add value to your organisation?

Organisational Learning
In a rapidly changing world, the ability to stay alive and continue to grow is largely a function of organisational climate that allows the rate of learning in the firm that is equal to or greater than the pace of change in the environment. The sessions consider these culture issues and the ladders of human development in firms.

Business Strategy
Business Policy session using the case study approach emphasize the unique leadership role (often referred to as the helicopter view) of the Chief Executive as the strategist with practical examples of situations where the strategy process is either planned and directed or contingent and emergent. Concepts and tools will be presented for industry analysis and for configuring the firm's resources to achieve a unique position and sustainable competitive advantage. For the sake of breadth and versatility, generic strategy adaptations to specific settings will be explored alongside the functional integration and other organisational implications of strategy formation.
Overall, CEO will be exposed to a combination of rational and insightful approaches to creating some sense of the future (vision) and for generating competitive advantage to superior firm performance with greater levels of confidence into the Long term.

The Integrated Simulation Business Strategy Game
The Business Strategy Game is a hands-on learning exercise that will give you valuable decision-making practice and develop your powers of business judgment.

The game will enable you and your co-managers to assess changing industry and competitive conditions, diagnose the strategies of competitors and anticipate their next moves, pursue ways to secure competitive advantage, evaluate different courses of action, chart strategic course for your company to take, and adjust plans in response to changing conditions.

The game will also enable you gain a stronger understanding of how the different functional pieces of a business fit together, thus integrating the knowledge from other business courses you have taken.

Leading People

Team Building
Proper team work makes for greater flexibility, speed and quality of customer service. It is becoming more and more important for today's senior executive to have a good understanding of team building processes, starting with the top management team and reaching the whole organisation.

Change Management

Leadership
The Leadership course for AMP stresses the importance of multilevel leadership in organisations. The case study features an enterprise in which a turn around was achieved largely because middle management personnel exercised their skills and determination to initiate strategic thrusts that were then adopted by their bosses. Participants are led to identify the issues that make for leadership effectiveness, and to assess their own leadership performance on the basis of those issues

AMP Comments

"The AMP, in my view, is especially suited to enable the senior executive to expand his horizons beyond his functional base and strengthen his general management capacity. Specific aspects stood out for me... The case method engendered our full participation providing a broad range of real-life business experiences. The dedication of LBS staff, both teaching and non-teaching and the excellent LBS environment... It all added up to a true learning experience."

"
- Bayo Afolabi, Controller- Human Resources and Admin., Academy Press Plc., AMP-3

"The AMP measured up to its billing as a professionally relevant exposure for business activities. The quality and volume of study material met my perception of what such a course would offer; and my expectation of a highly rewarding experience was completely satisfied. I will he ever more grateful to every single facilitator on that course. The AMP enabled me to appreciate my business exposure to date and has prepared me for the challenge ahead. With what I have got I cannot fail."
-J. F. A. Ekun, Pamol Nigeria Ltd. Calabar, AMP-3.

"My experience on the AMP has been very rewarding and interesting. I had attached short seminars previously at the LBS but none of those could compare to the systematic mode employed in imparting knowledge and values as the AMP. The facilities are excellent and facilitators are world class. Sessions are led with openness and expertise which draws out ideas and testimonies even from the most complacent of participants. The fairly lengthy time span of the programme not only allows for adequate preparation for classes but more importantly good space for participants to get to know each other and firmly implant the roots of a life long association as alumni."
- Sheriff Yussuf, Nigeria Inter- continental Merchant Bank Ltd., AMP-6.

"I found the whole programme very interesting and relevant to my work as the General Manager of my organisation, especially the business policy ethics sessions. Many of the facilitators really proved themselves and made sure they communicated with the class. The case study approach of delivery was very methodical and ensured a highly participative class. The LBS environment is quite conducive to learning."
- Jacob Erhabor., General Manager, Cornerstone Insurance Company Ltd., AMP-6.
